big block chrome valve covers
Welcome to the forum... Good to have you aboard!
As for your question, the 1968-1974 big block valve covers did not use the "cut" left side valve cover like the 1965-1967 big block/power brake Corvettes, the main reason being that the vacuum assist booster on the later cars was much smaller in diameter and didn't require the additional clearance.
There were several variations of the big block valve covers used in Corvettes each with varying construction and finish differences. Depending upon how early in 1971 production your car was built, it may have been originally equipped with chrome valve covers from the factory although the majority of 1971 big block Corvettes used painted (engine orange) valve covers.
About the best reproduction valve covers available are those sold by David Crane at Crane Corvette in California - (858) 864-2883. These are the most accurate reproduction and David should be able to set you up with what you need. If you don't need to have that level of accuracy, less expensive valve covers are available from other vendors. Used covers are another option, but I would strongly suggest you inspect a set of used valve covers before purchase to avoid any with serious damage.
Good luck with your valve cover purchase.
Regards,
