I got a PACE catalogue in the mail yesterday and I don't know if my expectations were to high but I was disappointed in the prices that I saw. I had heard that they were very well priced but I just don't see it. I have bought from both Summit and Scoggin Dickey and was much more pleased with the price's and service from SD. I have never bought from JEGS but hear that they are pretty good as well. Just wandering who the most popular performance parts vendors are and how there service and prices are.
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (BlackRat)
I usually stick with either Jeg's or Summit and have found both their prices and service to be very competitive with each other. Another good source is Swap Meets, but, you have to know exactly what you are looking for and what the normal Jeg's/Summit price is. There are some great bargains at swap meets, but, some of those guys really like what they have and try to rip you off also. I never buy used parts at swap meets.

I use Jeg's, Summitt for regular mechanical items, and Scoggins, Sallee(good prices but they're accross the country), Competition Products, Northern Auto Parts and GM parts direct(slow) for more specific GM type parts(head gaskets-heads).
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (BlackRat)
Summit & Jegs are within a nickle or so on most parts, so I call one and if they don't have it I call the other. 95% of the time I get what I am looking for.
I call Summit first though as they do ship the same day if you call in before noon. Jegs? I sometimes wonder.
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (BlackRat)
I used to prefer Summit. I wouldn't buy a part from them now with your money. I called and had some questions about a item that I wanted to buy and the ****** on the phone insisted I call the "Toll" number with questions. I said I didn't have general questions I had a question as to the dimensions of a specific part I wanted to order. He insisted I call the other number. When I asked why I needed to call another number with a question he said they waste too much time with guys that want to talk about their cars. Some people are way too lazy and ignorant to hold a job. The order would have come to $785.00 I know that's chump change to companies that size but JEGS got the order and all my orders since then. I will not tollerate an attitude from customer service.
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (Fevre)
Most of may parts are between Jegs, Summit and P.A.W. All three have free shipping (all have a handling charge). I usually call all 3 and see who has it in stock and the cost shipped to my door and go with the cheapest. :yesnod:
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (SIGNGUY)
Summit is #1 in my book, I deal w/ Jegs too sometimes, they never let me down but they don't send me catalogs so I only use them when I need small parts shipped to an US address. '
Jim Pace isn't cheap at all, summit and jegs have much better prices and their prices are close too. Sometimes Summit is a bit cheaper, sometimes Jegs, it doesn't differ that much.
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (gotchashawn)
One thing I miss with all the mail order companies now is a true speed shop that you can walk into and all the parts are in stock. I still have that preference of holding the parts and looking at them before I buy them. I also miss the conversations that can be had with the sales people and other customer's. With the advent of the internet and all the mail order companies the local speed shop in this area is dead. :cry I worked for Super Shops in the mid '80's while I was in high school and I used to love that place. Do they even exist anywhere anymore? There is a speed shop if you want to call it that in Rock Hill SC but when you ask for a part first response is "I can order it for you". Then when I ask for the price they must think that I am stupid and don't know what this stuff cost. :mad This particular place has between a $100 and $150 markup over the mail order guys! They probably get the m from the same place but get the buisness discount and then try and stick it to there customers. Case in point. I priced a set of speed pro forged pistons for my 454 they quoted me $600! WTF don't they look in these catalogues and see that you can get them much less from somewhere else?! :boxing Sorry I may have strayed a little off the subject.......But I feel better now. :yesnod: :smash:
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (BlackRat)
I agree Blackrat  There used to be a Super Shops here in Va. Beach, but they closed up about 6 yrs ago or so. I think the big boys like Summit & Jegs did them in. They were priced higher then the mail order shops but it was nice to be able to see and hold the parts before you bought. I guess this is what they call 'progress'

There is an outfit called Ramchargers in MI that also is trying to go internet but their prices are too high to compete with the big boys at the interenet level. I agree about seeing the part, if I am going to substitute or rig something up I go to the local parts store, but if I know what I want then I might as well get the best price. Most times the saving on one part is more than the handling charge but I usually find myself adding on parts 'while I am at it'. Monday I had order a $50 coil for my Formula and somehow it cost me almost $300, what happened? :D
I used them for 12 -14 years. Summit racing is about 10 minutes from my house. It's handy, but then I have to include 7.25% sales tax. So I mail order bigger items that I'm not in a hurry for.
Re: Where does everyone buy there performance parts? (BlackRat)
Anybody except Scoggins-Dickey. They are absolutely the worst I've ever seen. Placed significant order and waited 2 months and had to call repeatedly. Will never, never use them again.
Now use either Summit or Jegs. Excellent bunch of folk to do business with.
