When I pull the lever, the driver side pops up bit the passenger side sticks. Is there any way for me to get in there and un-latch that side? I tried to take the luver vent out behind the front wheel but I could not reach. Any Ideas are appreciated.
I just went through this! on my 72.. had a brand new hood put on and the frickin thing jammed on the passenger side. There is a way to get it open.. but it wasn't working for me. I had to take it to a body shop and they wound up having to unbolt the hood entinrely and slide it forward to undwedge it.. argh!
There are lots of different things you can try as I had mine stuck numerous times. The last few times I had to resort to unbolting the front of the hood from underneath by pulling the passenger front tire and reaching through the A-arm hole on that side.
I will give you a hint after you get it released. I coated the bushing head that locks into the hood with a white marker and then slightly pressed down to see where the interference was. Ends up my hood was a good 3/8" pressing to the rear side of that mechanism and when it locked down there was no possibilities for it to release. I loosened the attaching bushing a couple of times and tried it again.... remarking the bushing with white each time to see where I was at and now I have no problems at all.
I believe the 82 should be the same as the 75 (of which this was posted about) and this is what I saved from that earlier post:
"You need to locate a round plastic plug installed in the wiper area bulkhead between the wipers and the engine compartment. The plug is aligned with the release for the hood. Remove the plug by pulling it out or punch it through for later retrieval. Then go in through the hole with a screwdriver and feel for the latch. Then just activate the latch by pushing in and the hood will release. I am assuming the cable that broke is the main cable from the release handle, and not the cable that is mounted to the hood that operates the passenger side latch."
edit: Sorry- this is for the primary cable and not the cable that goes to the passenger side
