Default Anyone stabbed in a Kiesler 5 speed?

I'm looking to purchase a five speed or my '69 and am curious if anyone has done this and what their experiences were. Is the 5-7 hour installation time reasonable? What "extra" problems did you run into that you weren't expecting, etc. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mine is sitting in the garage. Hopefully next week I'll have my engine so I can get it installed and running.

I had a hard time getting all the right parts from Keisler. But they were very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. The only thing still missing is the reverse light harness. The one they sent requires you to cut your existing harness. The optional complete harnes listed in the instructions doesn't exist yet

If you order from them you need to be very specific about delivery time, and all the parts needed. They forgot to send a bunch of parts, then they sent the wrong parts. When I ordered it and gave them the deposite, they told me it would take 3 weeks to get the transmission , it ended up being more than 8 weeks to get it.

But in all fairness I have a '68 which is very different than other C3s, and I was one of the first to recieve one of there kits.

As far as I know they are the only company that offers a complete kit for the TKO that doesn't require you to cut up your car. So I guess I can't complain.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. You're right, they seem to be the only game in town (except maybe Richmond). Good luck with your install.

Seriously:

5-7 hours seems short to simply remove and re-install the same tranny.
It would take a couple hours just to get the exhaust safely out of the way -
unless you have a new stainless system with new hardware.

Optimistically - I would plan 5-7 days (part time).
This assumes you have all the 'stuff' you need to complete the job,
and you don't get caught up in the "while-I'm-at-it" phenomena.

The new tranny leads to new Ujoints - leads to new half shaft joints - leads to cleaning and painting the half-shafts - leads to (well - you get the idea).

Dave

Bet they are assuming your old tranny is out already and is not factored into the 5-7 hours.

I started a thread about 3 weeks after his install in the C1/C2 section for the install details, but he never responded. He has stated in other threads that he has lots of pics and has someone working on a web page.

I have side exhaust and I can easily remove and re-install my Muncie in about 2 hours. You're right that you have to keep away from the "while I'm at it" if you want to do it in 5-7 hours. Remember that the kit includes a new driveshaft and yolk with u-joints so the idea is just a remove and replace. I havn't seen it done (or pics), but some that participated in the C2 install said 5-7 hours is about right.

You're right, $3K is a big penny, but I'd like to keep my 4:11 and cruise at 70 mph under 6000 RPM :mad Thanks for the reply

New SS exhaust I got. Hadn't really planned on the rest. I didn't know how comprehensive their set-up was, and didn't look to call until I was ready. I'm having a 383 built and was hoping to find someone with a similiar set-up. Thanks for the response, you raised alot of good points to consider. ;)

Thanks. The info on the kit helps. I'm trying to collect everything I need to completely update my drivetrain (383, 5 or 6 speed, alum radiator, elec fans, ss steering column, etc). I have a very bad case of "While I'm at it". Anyway, everything is goin with (or being shipped) to my cousin's shop in Memphis and we are trying to avoid as many "Ut-Oh"s  as possible.
