I have been thinking of installing a more modern style distributor but I have a mechanical tach drive and am not sure if this is possible. I've looked at one in Ecklers catalog at a whopping 500 plus. I was hoping to do it for a little less. Thanks Travis :flag
Some people dont like em but ive had good sucess with the Pertronix II conversion kit. It converts your point style dist to breakerless electrinic. slap on a 50k volt canister coil and yur sparkin hot and good to go. Plus you can still carry the points along and slap em back in if the ignitor fails. ive never had to though. But its nice to have a back up in a simple ziplock baggie.
Yes, PERTRONIX is fine. I have the older one, but works OK.
I overhauled the ditributor in the mean time.
New bushings, new main shaft , drilled some extra lubrication holes to pressure lube the lower bushing and drive. ( was a recommendation on this forum )

I have the older one (wait a few seconds before START - teaches me patience!). Went all through the dist. (index was 180 off, etc.) and put a Lars kit in it. Been great so far - but I do have a new set of points and condenser with me at all times because other folks here made me paranoid!!
