Default Help removing bolts from Rams Horns

I'm trying to remove the bolts from my 75 L-82 Ram Horns but the bolt heads are odd or rust worn. 1/2 or 9/16 don't fit, neither does any metric wrench I have? I used a Sears bolt remover but this snapped off the head!
Any suggestions from those who have been here before?
Thanks,
Kid

Any stubborn bolts, grind off the head and get the manifold off. You'll have enough stud to go at em with vice grips after, or so I'm told.

Make sure to soak 'em in penetrating catalyst!

Are you talking about the studs where the exhaust bolts up or the bolts securing the manifolds to the head? If it's the studs, thats "easy" Just heat the area surrounding the studs to a dull red and they should turn out with a vice grip for replacement. If it's the bolts securing them to the head, I would suggest a cutting torch to carefully remove the bolt head, slide the manifolds off the bolts, then work on the bolts still sticking out with a vice grip. You could also use a die grinder for this, but it's nowhere near as exciting.

The advice re the snapped bolt is good advice. Re the "others",ind a socket, find that is "slightly" too small. Hammer it on and this will give you enough interference fit to undo the bolt.:smash:

It is easier if heat is applied to the bolt first. Dont use gas its too harsh and hot. If u have a propane burner they are a lot easier to manipulate and the heat is less than that generated by a torch. :mad

and use PB Blaster for a pentrating fluid, but be careful if you are heating it too. I would imagine that stuff is flammable. :mad

OK, I gotta ask--how do you get the bolt back out of the socket?

Take socket off of wrench, put screwdriver in square hole, place socket over vice jaws so bolt is exposed, but edges of socket rest on jaws, use large FORD tool on screwdriver...

I thought so, too - but threw caution to the wind and sprayed some ball joint
bolts after heating VERY hot with a propane torch. No fire - but lots of stinky
smoke. It worked well. Shut off the flame before spraying !!!

After you get all the bolt heads out of the way - and the bolt shafts are still
tight in the head,

heat - oil - heat - oil - turn

Last resort is breaking and drilling. You don't wanna go here.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I going to try and cut off the bolt heads and tap the manifolds off. Once the manifolds are off I can soak the bolts with PB Blaster and heat them up and maybe that will loosen them up. I just hope that works because I don't want to take off my heads right now.
