I'm in the middle of installing the b+m shift kit - took the valve body and seperator plate off, and something fell out and i have no idea where it came from and if it is even supossed to be in the tranny. It was a little black filter type looking thing about an inch long and the circumfrence was about an inch as well. It also was kind of triangle shaped, any idea what it is and where it goes?
Oil pump screen, there is a spot for it in the front driver's side of the case. You install it the the same direction that you are holding it, open side up.
Had the same thing happen to me; I wish I could remember the name of the book I was using (referred to me by another member) that had a picture of where that filter/screen went.
I agree with Ben, but I can't remember anything more specific. If you do find the hole/shaft that it goes into, you can hold it up in place with a dab of vasoline.

You will need lots of vasoline for this job  When you are placing the ***** (6 or 5 depending on your choice of shifting) you will HAVE to use grease or vasoline to hold them up. Not a hard job just dirty and time consuming. Oh, make sure you install a drain plug while you have the pan out. Makes it much easier to change oil later.
It's about half done, I ran out of time last night so i'll probably finish it on wednesday. I'll let you know how it is once i test it out. From what i have read, the install is actually going quite a bit easier than what i had thought it was going to be.
