Ok folks, yet again it's time for me to throw my self at the feet of forum wisdom. The other night when I got in to my vette (77 L-82) i pushed down on the door handle and heard a pop and now the door handle droops. After numerous fits and fighting to get the handle out, I noticed that the small coil spring at the bottom was off on one side. the door handle popped back up to close to where it should be. It still does droop however. Upon closer looking at it, the piece that you move when the door handle is pressed is fully throated out when the handle is released and it still is not all the way up and flush..Looking in Mid America, i noticed that they have a flat steel spring that goes underneath the handle. I didn't notice one of these in the one that I have. Is this a stop gap measure or something that should be there? should I buy one or look deeper for more issues?
I had the same problem on my 73 and I tried one of the flat springs that you are talking about and after 8 months it is still working fine and the door is opened several times a day,It may only be temporary but I like it.
I had a case of droopy handles.... :p: in my '73. I tried the little flat springs but they were only marginally effective (the handle still drooped quite a bit) so I bought 2 new handles and ripped my hair out installing them...now everything's fine!
Actually they aren't that bad to install. You just need to take your time and be careful. Here's a helpful link with some tips on the installation:
