Default T-top question

I am getting ready to paint the 78, and need to know about the chrome edging around the t-top.
Does it just pop on there, glued?
If I ruin it taking it off, where can I get new ones?
Thanks, Randy
:seeya

Replacements ARE NOT available. When I painted my 71 I masked around them.

My painter remove the ones on the wifes 79. I'll ask him when I see him this weekend.

My painter WOULD NOT remove those strips. As a previous poster indicated, no replacements are available. Be careful.

I think the side pieces are screwed on- you have to remove the weatherstripping to get to them. I removed the pieces on my 80 before painting- it was a real pain- mine were painted over, so I had little choice. I did not see any glue- I believe they are pressed on and lightly crimped in place.
They are pretty sturdy pieces so dont be afraid to take them off- just be careful.

Well shoot, I never thought to rip the weather stripping off to look. Thanks for all the replies though. Car is primed and waiting for color. :seeya

It is a press on fit. You can take a wooden dowel and a hammer and CAREFULLY tap the top inside edges away from the center of the T-top. A few tap, tap, taps and the chrom piece will be off. Reinstalling is just as easy. Tap, tap, tap with a rubber mallet. Make sure you start at one end or the other....not in the middle.

I found a good used one at Carlisle last year. you will get a nicer paint job if they are removed. Craig
