I am finally getting around to ordering some new rims. But I can't decide on 17's or 18's. Can some of you post some pics of C3's with both 17's and 18's?
18s will give you more tire options but IHMO, they look TOO BIG for vatte wheel openings.
17s are in better proportion.
:iagree: Gotta go with 17's. Take a look at Intro wheels - Pentia (that's what is on 69MyWay's car) and Billet Specialties - Streamline. I love both of those and you don't see them much if at all.
The problem with 17's is that your locked into only a couple of widths to get the correct diameter. I've had 17's for 6 - 7 years or so and I plan on 18 or even 19 rears.
One thing to think about if you get 17's up front and 18's out back: You wont be able to rotate your tires. I've photochopped some ZR1 style wheels onto my car and I think im going to go this way when I get rolling again. 255/50/17 Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 tires on 8.5" wide rims will be my target, same OD and width as my current 255/60/15 tires
Some other considerations - there may be less of a selection of 18" tires compared to 17" tires. 18" tires may also be quite a bit more expensive than 17" tires but if you're looking at Boyds I guess price is not a big factor for ya.
Price is indeed a factor. That is why I am considering either the Kumho's or the KDW's. The nice thing is I am looking at stock C5 sizes. Seems like the selection is getting bigger everyday.
I spent the last year or so trying to decide on which rims to get. I finally decided on these and found them to not be as expensive as I had first thought. They really aren't that much more than torq thrusts.
I have been looking at going with the 17" front and 18" back. IMO a lower tire up front and bigger in back looks better on a shark. I was looking at a 245 or 255/45-17 front about 25.7 to 26" overall and a 275 or 285/40-18 in back which would be 26.7 to 27" overall. The 18" back also might give a little better clearance at the spring and arm.
69MyWay's car has 18" all around a they don't look to big for the car. That is one of the prettiest sharks I have ever seen. The flares might throw that off though. Overall his tires are lower though: 25.7 front and 26.1 rear. But still have that front to rear stagger. As long as you lower the car - I think 18s all around would look good.
