Default Help: Part Defect from Corvette Central?

Just got the choke coil spring from Corvette Central. I was trying to install it, but something does not seem right:

- With the original choke spring, it was mounted and coiled in such a way that it would pull the choke rod down (closing the choke) when it's cold...
When it's hot, the coil would unwind, pushing the choke rod up and opening the choke.

- I took the original spring out and placed it right next to the new spring, they are identical in term of mounting hole, housing bracket... ect except that the new spring is mounted to coil in the OPPOSITE direction as that of the original. It is as if someone took it out, flipped it over and put it back in. The way it is right now, it would force the choke open when cold and push the choke closed when hot

Is this a part defect? Or may be there is something I don't know. There is a screw holding the spring to the housing bracket, can I unscrrew that, take the spring out and flip it over?

Some choke coils pull and some push. It sounds like they gave you the wrong type. Give them a call and work out an exchange.

The answer above is correct. Here is a little more color. They probably sourced the spring from Paragon. The spring itself is made by Echlin, sold by Napa. Paragon has the wrong spring, ie as you discovered they ship you the push up when you order the pulldown spring. I ordered one from Paragon and got the wrong one. When I saw it came in an Echlin box (with their part # taped over the Echlin #) I just went to Napa and they looked it up in their book and sold me the right spring. It was a couple bucks cheaper at Napa of course. It was too complicated to call Paragon and explain it to them, plus there is a tendency for parts houses, especially highly regarded vette specialty parts houses, to not believe customers when they tell them they have the wrong numbered part..

So, go to Napa and get the right spring! :) MJ

p.s. it's all a vague memory now, but I believe I went nearly stark raving mad before I figured out I had the wrong spring!!
