Default Evaporator/Blower housing

Can anyone tell me if the blower should be on when if the heat/air is off?
Everyting is off and I turn the key to gen so that I can listen to the radio, and the fan in the blower housing is on.

I think so. My is always on low speed, even if A/C-heat-defrost switch is off.

Yes, it is supposed to be on. Pizz poor way of doing things but that's the way Chevy did it.

The blower on my wife"s 82 doesn't work at all, although the air cond still does. Replaced the console switch but no luck. Where should I check next?

Try the resistors mounted in the air stream of the blower housing under the hood. These are what allows slow and medium speeds. There is also a blower relay for high speed that could be faulty (also under the hood) and of course check the ground to the fan.

2 things…the blower should be on. There is a switch called the "low blo switch" that turns the blower fan on "Low" speed even when the fan switch is in the "Off" position if the temp control is set at anything other than "Off" or "Vent". This is part of the "Astro Ventilation" system. It's located on the climate controls unit and is controlled by the temp control. Second (blower not working) there is an in-line fuse between the "BAT" terminal on the horn relay and the blower relay that needs to be checked. Also, the 2 main culprits of the blower not working are (1) the blower relay and (2) the blower speed control resistors, in that order.

Blower A/C Vent
Low to Off
Disconnect connector at resistor box under hood pass. side near high blower relay & bend down the connector to dk. brown wire & reconnect. (77)

Changed mine many years ago.

That will stop the blower from working all the time. It will work only if you move the fan lever to low, med, or high.
