Man how did you get the washer tank out? I bought a new pump for mine and can't figure out how to even try to replace the pump. On mine it's either a bad tank or seal on the pump. It leaks it all out.
its been awhile since i did it but i think that a six point 7/8" deep socket on a swivel will remove the nut through the top of the tank - napa sells a replacement pump for a reasonable cost - i used a dab of silicone to hold the nut into the socket when reinstalling - the tank comes out the bottom if you move the evap cannister out of the way but the pump had to be removed first - i'v heard of people taking the brake master cyl out - but it sounds like more of a hassle than its worth - dave
I removed the evap canister/bracket and the cruise transducer, and still couldn't get the bloody tank to drop out, even after taking the pump off. I only wanted to wash my tank out, since it had started to grow its own special type of slimey fungus that kept blocking the washer jets. I ended up washing it out with a long brush, through the side vent. I'm pretty sure i tried every angle to get it out, but the chassis was just a couple of inches too close, however i turned it. Must have missed something. Dave, did you have to squeeze the tank to get it out?
Anyway, to get the pump out, i used a deep socket and extension. When you've loosened it, rattle the nut out of the tank (plenty of room to turn it upside down in there). Going back in, i put a strip of insulating tape down the side of the socket, and onto the edge of the nut (its quite thick) to hold it all together. I put the majority of the tape on the socket, so as to encourage it to stick to that rather than falling off into the tank!
no you dont have to squeeze the tank but i do remember having to loosen the metal line in side the frame rail, running to the ecs cannister and remove the 5 hoses to it and the cannister and it took a few trys before i got the thing out - i didnt have to mess wth the cruise control - a real spacial conception puzzle - also did you separate the neck from the main tank? - i used that dish washer detergent that is made for tupperware and it cleaned up great - also replaced the ecs filter while i was there - dave ---- ps napa says that is 19.95 called a rebuild kit
Well, Yeah mine cleaned up well too, just had to do it all through the side vent! I've had my cruise out many a time - so i can do that in less than five mins these days! Still puzzled as to how the hell you got yours out. I'm normally pretty patient when it comes to fiddly stuff like this, but this little bugger got me stumped
Still, its all of interest only now, since its all nice and clean. But for future reference, just out of interest, what "metal line in the frame rail" did you loosen? I took out the evap canister, and pulled the whole evap bracket right out, but couldnt see any more things to loosen, to be honest!
