I'm rebuilding the rear out of my 75 L-82 4 speed. I have 3.55's in there now. I thought I had 3.70's? what difference would 3.90's make over the 3.55's? I would use the gears from Tom's because they'll work with the 3 series carrier.
So is it worth changing to for street driving?
Thanks,
Kid
You don't think I will notice much of a difference in the low end performance? I want the car to feel like it's got more torque off the line. Plus I don't really care about the highway that much because I'm not planning on traveling to far with it and when I do drive on the highway I don't go over 65 or 70mph.
Do you think it would be better just to keep the 3:55s and build up the motor a little bit?
Thanks
im runnin 373's with a 700r-4 and 383 motor----runs fine on the highway-just came back from a 800mile round trip to minoqua wisconsin from chicago----adverged 17mpg-- had her up over 100 mostly crusin at 80-85-90 mph-------------- i love the gear combos----carl a
I have 3.55's and I dont like goin over 65 or so.....I'm turning 3K at 70 mph, and that gets kinda nerve-wraking after a while. 3.90's I cant even imagine!
Thanks guys, I guess you're right I don't really need 3.90s and should probably keep the 3.55s. By staying with the 3.55s I won't whind out as much on the highway, my fuel economy will be a little bit better, and I won't have to spend $250 for the new ring and pinion.
