Under hood temp
My stroker runs like crapola on a hot day. I'm running a Quadrajet #1903 Edlebrock and headers. It has been dyno tuned and puts out decent numbers on the Dyno.
My problem is in traffic, obviously with the hood closed and fighting traffic. The carb is new as is the stroker. I'm running 4 inch air cleaner and a performer manifold. This setup seems VERY sensitive to ambient temp. What I 'd like to do next, is see if the OEM intake (cold air) will help. My problem with that is that the openings on the forward side of the radiator are so small.
Use a 3" filter instead of the 4" and insert a 1" x 4 hole phenolic(sp?) spacer under the carb. The spacer will keep the carb cooler and boost your low end torque a bit.
Another thought, high underhood heat will tend to boil your gas in the fuel line. I overcame that by using a Holley 803 fuel regulator. One port goes to the return line and the other to the carb. That way more fuel is circulating and less is trapped.
Personnally, I don't understand how that sliver of space over the radiator support can provide enough air. Maybe at highway speeds it has a ram effect, but not in traffic.

In traffic, your not running WOT. So you don't need that much air. But it is still cooler than the under hood air.
