I am running that pump, and am not using the cam stop. I don't know why you would need to.

As far as the pump, it is a good pump to use and has been no problem for me. The only issue is the casting is a little thicker than the stock casting. Mounting up the alternator adjustment arm and other brackets to the pump may require a little grinding of the pump and brackets to make them fit. I would still recommend the water pump, but just letting you know it may take a little extra work to install.

What about the pilot shaft. The vette has a 3/4" pilot doesnt it. Will using a pump with a smaller pilot shaft cause any pulley alignment problems? Something to consider anyway.

My Stewart pump bolted right up on my small block with no modification. It also dropped my temps 30 degrees.

That edelbrock pump is made for the C3 vette. It is a short pump design with a 3/4" shaft. Using a 5/8"th shaft pump with 3/4 shaft water pump pulley would be a serious problem. The 3/4" shaft also has larger better bearings and a stronger case.

The cam stop is for roller cams. They don't have the slight angle ground in the lobes that pushes the cam towards the back of the block. You don't need it for conventional cams. Joe

Thats what I have as you know. Good pump, I like it. Just throw the cam stop in the bottom of your toolbox.
