What's my best source for getting a spare tire? I don't currently have one and understand it is an integral part of the shock absorption system in case of a rear end collision. I've looked in catalogs...never see one.
Have you tried posting a "want to buy" in the parts section? A lot of guys are removing the spares for less weight, I'll bet there is a ton of them out there. Bought mine from a forum member along with the shell. The tire turned out to be way cool, an original spare "BLEM" It was not uncommon to see "blems" used as spares, that is how the tire manufacturers were getting rid of them. I think quality control has got a lot better in recent years and blems are no longer available.
Any local tire shop should have some plain used wheels you can buy for cheap. They can also mount and ballance a used, but still good for a spare, tire. Find the right place and you might get the whole package for not much more that 60 bucks or so.
Thanks for your response. I did post a request some time ago and got no action. From the looks of the carriage and the size of the compartment the spare is obviously donut sized. That's the look in my owner's manual as well.
I purchased a rim from Corvette central, $70 then kept one tire after I had 4 new BF Goodriches installed last week, I'm sure once you get the rim you can get a used tire from a tire place faily cheap.

Hmmm... My spare is not donut size? I wonder if it is supposed to be. I have a full size tire under my car and it fits just fine.
