Default Water temperature gauge increments

On a 1973 vette the water temperature gauge has several increments marked. Can anyone tell me what the increment represents between the 180 and 210 degrees? Is it 190, 195, or 200? Thanks

If you divide the jump from 180 to 210 you have 30 and 1/2 is 15. So approximately you will have 195 in the middle.

But the question is - is the origional temp sensor still in the block. If it was replaced the gauge is probably pretty inaccurate anyway. Use a temp gun and compare the readings.

That's what I thought it was, around 195 degrees. And you are correct again, my friend is sending me his temp gun so I can get an accurate reading in several spots, front of the drivers side head which is close to the temperature sensor, upper and lower radiator inlet/outlet pipes, thermostat housing, and even the water pump. I think the gauge is off or maybe the sensor, they were not very accurate and they vary alot so I have been told. I changed thermostats form a 195 which they call for to a 180. I don't think that it should hurt performance, but I usually go with the manufacturers specs.
Any thoughts on changing the thermostats?

I should be able to send the temp gun on Thursday. I will not need it for a week. Vacation :hurray:

Thanks Gordon, I'm looking forward to taking several readings and see how accurate or inaccurate my gauge or sensor is, otherwise the car is running great! Cant wait for Englishtown next week! Next Monday is my trip to Mufflex for the "H" pipe to be installed By the way, so much for Amsoil 2000 gear oil stating that you dont need the positraction additive. As you remember the rear noise at Atco, I drained some of the fluid out and added the GM additive then did some figure eights, no more noise... :hurray:
