I want to put some 17" rims on my 69. I plan on going with 17X8 with 4" back spacing. My question deals with the offset. Do i need a certain offset on the wheels for my vette. Thanks
This might help with your original question. Offset and backspacing are the same measurement with different reference points.
A wheel with neutral or 0 offset means that the mounting surface is right in the middle of the wheel. Any number + or - is the distance (usually in mm) from the actual mounting surface and the center of the wheel.
Backspacing is the distance from the inside or back of the rim to the mounting surface. To measure the backspacing, set the wheel on its face and measure the distance from the mounting surface the the upper edge of the wheel.
For example an 8" wheel with 4" backspacing has a 0 offset.
. . .For example an 8" wheel with 4" backspacing has a 0 offset.
Not completely true. 8" is the measurement at the inside of the lip. 8" wheels are really about 8.5" wide. 4.25" backspacing would be 0 offset. You do need a 4" backspacing though.
