Can anyone provide any info on clearance issues you've experienced (or not experienced) with a TPI conversion? I'm having my 350 stroked to 388 and want to convert using the Street & Performance or Edelbrock kit, but am concerned it may be too tall for my stock small block hood ('69). If so, I have too decide if the TPI is worth another $500-600 for a taller hood.
Any help/advice is GREATLY appreciated
Few guys trying the Holley ProJection if i am not mistaken. I am seriously thinking of buying the Holley Stealth Ram and using all but the manifold on the vette, swapping intakes with the LT1 off my Formula. I like the program on the fly feature of the Holley Commander 900 so mods are easier to tune for. I bought a real MAF tpi but am not certain if it will fit my long term plans of possible supercharging.
It should fit i can meaure mine from top of fender to top of fender to give you an idea.I have a raised hood on mine but i dont think it even comes above the fenders.
Answer for him, that is the run of mill GM MAF TPI system, just like the one I have. You can get them off e-bay for about $400 to $500 ro try a junk yard. You will need to decide which type you want, Mass Air Flow (MAF) or Speed Density.
Actually, I was hoping to use a kit like Edlebrock or S & P has with everything you need (wiring harness, fuel lines, gaskets, etc.). Was hoping to find someone with a similar set-up for clearance issues. Thanks for the help/info :yesnod: I may just have to pull the manifold and measure :mad
I think Cookwithavet just installed a Holley commander 950 MPFI, start another thread with that title and see if you can draw him in. He will be able to let you know if it fits under a stock hood. FYI the holley system allows you to program on the fly while edel system has a chip that needs programming out of the car.
i got everything pretty much from a donor car a 87 trans am , used everything i could harness,sensors,computer,700r4 trans.I ran 2 new fuel lines one 3/8 feed line and a 5/16 return line installed a 89 vette pump in my tank to feed it.Install wasnt bad it took longer to wire it under the dash with the 87 wiring harness then anything else, the tpi runners and plenum and stuff is a piece of cake.checkout my website i havent updated it in a bit but itll give you an idea. http://www.angelfire.com/nj4/patsvette/index.html
Mine is a large port manifold and runners, hogged out with stock t-body...and a 355 ci roller engine...it's basically stock looking....clears fine on the hood and everything else....
I used Accel's SuperRam system which is a TPI style system just with different runners and plennum. I baught the system with 36 lb. injectors, Accel ECU with Calmap program, all the sensors inluding knock, 1,000 CFM throttle body, Accel ignition box, Accel coil, and a sequential injection distributor. It all came to too around $4,000 I believe. Tuning with the laptop is really cool. I followed the instructions and the car actually cranked on the first try. With a little adjustment I got the idle down to 800 RPM's. After doing my own tuning on the computer I took it to the strip and ran a 13.07 sec. 1/4 and was getting over 20 mpg on the highway. I took it to a dyno shop that specialized in cars running on Calmap, and the guy was able to pick up 20 horsepower and 80 ft. lb. of torque without even twisting a wrench! I wrecked the car the next day, so I never got to try out my new times.
The car is unique and everyone loves the idea, but if I had to do it all over again I think I would just drop a LS1 in the car and go from there. It would've been cheaper and lighter, and I could've saved up for a supercharger and been running 11's. If you do decide to go with a stock EFI system such as a LT1 or tuned port I strongly suggest you invest in an aftermarket computer. It's expensive, but any upgrades you do to your car can be adjusted for. You might also be able to upgrade to sequential injection.
As for clearance, I know if you have an 82 you'll have to cut the cold air duct out of the hood. I had to do it for my plennum and it's much shorter then the GM TPI systems.

Where did you get the complete ACCEL system from? I have only seen the computer part of it.
