The idle will have a slight chop depending on compression and how well the carb that's used is able to meter the idle circuit. It will make OK power , just depends on the application such as gear and transmission and or stall converter ect.
If you would list what you have for motor parts it could be elaborated on more.

I ran a XE-274 in the 406 and was sort of glad when it flattened a lobe.Idle was like stock,pulled like a bulldozer though. Went to the XE-284 and it lopes fairly hard at 650 rpms.(Had to use manifold vacuum for the distributer)
If you want some lope in the 454,you should look at a bigger cam.
