Default Aftermarket intake in '76, clearance problems ?

I was wanting to put an aftermarket intake on my '76, but I had heard that if you didn't use a factory intake that it wouldn't clear the hood. Is this true ? Anyone have any experience or suggestions with this ? TIA

I went with a WEIAND "Action Plus" dual plane. It will accept either a Holley or a Q-Jet. Went to a drop base aircleaner w/3" Filter. I also shortened the carb aircleaner stud so it has only enuff room to start the nut. No problems. I think you can do the same with an Edelbrock Performer but NOT the Performer RPM manifold......GOOD LUCK!

I am running a Performer manifold with EGR and the Performer Edlebrock 975 CFM Quadradjet. With this setup, the 3 inch air cleaner just hits the hood insulation. I hope I never break a motor mount!

I ran a Edelbrock Performer with my stock Q-Jet, stock air cleaner, and stock hood. I had to change to a drop base air cleaner with an open 14X3" element when I went to the Performer RPM. Performer is same height as the stock intake.
