Default [RANT] I'm having major problems......... Needs some pics if possible

I'm so tired fighting this damn car it isn't funny. :mad I'm still having pulley problems, can't seem to get anything to line up after buying the bracket kit from Paragon. I've been fighting this for 3 MONTHS now!! The Aluminum Griffin universal radiator is giving me fits as well. I can't find ANY hoses to work. I even purchased the "flex" hoses and even those have a 90 degree bend in it. :mad

If it's not one thing it's another, I'm so tired of have to fab everything, nothing seems to fit. Thank God I don't have access to Dynomite or this car would have been blown up months ago!!!! :mad :mad :mad My dad and I are at each others throats ready to kill each other.

Can any of you guys w/ the Griffin Universal post some pics of your hoses? I need pis of the upper AND lower is possible.

Thanks...........

Slow down, it's a project. During all my fab up, you will have to purchase several hoses. Sometimes you will have cut one end off one and vise versa. Then join them with alum. exhaust pipe. You can even take the radiator to a muffler shop and have them weld the right angles you need.

As far as pulleys, they are a pain. I'm sure someone will have a pic. Email bence and see what he used.

Here is a couple pics of the problem, lack of clearance.

I'll probably just go to a different parts store and try to find SOME hose that fits. My other alternative is to weld a 90 degree or 45 degree neck on it.

The thing that P.O.'s me the most is the pulley's. I spent $160+ for the "bracket set" at Paragon and still can't get everything to line up. The ONLY way I cat get it to work is with the LONG water pump, go figure.

I"ll get it, but this type os pf crap reaally takes the fun out of building a car.

Thanks again for listening guys. :D

I thought you were going with March pulley's?

I think Bence is using a Griffin...maybe he'll check in if he's not busy burning up his tires.

Hang in there buddy!

Here is the pic I have handy, if you want me to take a better picture, I can this evening. Is the radiator installed correctly? The two pins at the bottom at in place and the bracket at the top is secure?

Corey, welcome to the club....I have launched many a car over the decades, some of them with dynomite too.!!!!!.....but seriously, there are more variations on the SBC setup from more cars than any other engine in the world....and somehow going to an OLD junkyard can/will help you...maybe a trip to a vette only junkyard....which pulleys are not lineing up???

I have MOST of the brackets and pulleys off my '72....old OEM stuff...
I THINK>>..I have t look....

Looks like that long waterpump set is what is causing the problem. Can you return the pulleys or maybe sell them? Do you have the old pulleys and pump to use to see if that will give the necessary clearence? Def get all the :cuss out directed towards the car, I always feel better after a good  in the garage. :)

Len, I ordered them and then sent them back, they were 25% underdriven and I was afraid I'd run into cooling issues. :(

Well, I think after mix matching th 25 different pulleys  my dad has in the shop I found a set that might work, though I'm having to use a long water pump which is odd. :(

Found a new cast aluminum swivel (O-ring) type water neck with 15 degree up angle at the Long Beach swapmeet here in So. Cal. (made in China though). Only $15 too ($15 for 15 degrees I guess :jester ). Don't know if it'll work on your big block but thought you should know they are availible as that 15 degree up angle on a swivel mount should fit most cars. Sorry no pictures (no digital camera yet) and I looked all over the house for the business card but no luck. Some of the parts houses should start to carry them though - my guess.
Looking at your pix seems like your missing some shroud work around those electric fans. With a hot big block could be cooling problems as B-cool sells even thier SB Spall fans with a shroud for sharks.
:grouphug: Hang in there as my sharks been down almost two years now but for the two grand I spent on parts I must'a saved ten grand in labor and got it done my way - no Bubba fix's. :D

What did you get in the "Bracket kit" from Paregon?

I gave in and bought a two groove & a 3 groove WP pulley. :cry Unsure which I'll use but with the craziness of prices, I figured I better bite-the-bulletbuy them now rather than another $50 more 6 months from now.

I have one of the 15deg swivel goose necks made from Billet Specialties, but I paid a lot more than $15.

68 BB Vettes use a short water pump. By using the original alternator bracket which is a cast piece, everything should line up. Otherwise, get in touch with Griffin through his internet site and I`m sure he will help.

I forget the part # bot it was the N.O.S. bracket kit ($160)which included all the alt brackets, and power steerings bracket, I also ordered the correct crank pulley as well.

I believe I have everything lined up but I'm having to use a long water pump. I'm getting the belts tomorrow to know for certain. :(

Wally, I agree in theory it should, but that is not the reality for me. I purchased everything from paragon, and the only way the pulley's line up is w/ a long water pump. :(

Give that long water pump a try and have another angle put on that radiator neck. Your almost there dude, problems could be worst.

If someone can put a BB in a beatle, you can do this man.

One problem I see is the top rad neck should be a 90, not straight. In fact, both top and bottom should be 90's. If you can find some molded hoses with a 90 bend, cut and splice with a sleeve, you should at least solve the hose issues.

I am surprised your problems with Paragon, their parts are usually right on the money. They also sell used factory original items, but they want a premium for the original stuff. Might be worth inquiring and see if they have the original brackets and pulleys. I know for a fact, the lower double groove BB pulley, used, will cost 125.00.

69 Stingray posted pics of hoses that work.....

Looks like a 90 degree bend in the upper rad outlet is one thing that you need to do.
