77 vette that I am building a new motor for...have a 350 and have already started the assembly of the edelbrock RPM package...wondering if anyone else has built this and what they did to get the carb and air cleaner to fit under stock hood..what drop base air cleaner was used? alos...I have the angle plug heads and have jsut ordered hedman headers wondering if anyone else has run this and what they ended up with for headers....not sure if the ones I ordered are the right ones............
I just brought the performer rpm Q-jet manifold for my car and was also wondering what drop base air cleaners would fit under my stock small block hood. I remember from past posts that you need to run at least a 2" drop base and nothing bigger then a 3" filter. Some people say that If you get a 350hp 69 air cleaner or 70 LT1 air cleaner they are 2" drop bases and will fit. Does anyone have any K&N part numbers for a drop base that they have used? Also is the K&N extreme lid worth getting?
I bought a drop base from a performance center here in town, But I use a 14 inch 3 inches tall K&N filter with a K&N extreme top. I still dont get the airflow I need for the perforance I want. I tried a 9inch but I didn't like it myself. I still have it if anyone interested.
 Larry
I did it with my stock 350/350 drop base (2") and a 3" K&N with xtreme lid. I also milled the choke tower off..If you don't you'll find the top of the tower sitting near the lid. 1/4" clearance on top to hood. Mine is a stock SB hood. also I have the RPM Air Gap, but that is the same as the RPM in height.

I used a K&N on my Q-Jet and RPM intake. Complete assembly in P/N 60-1430. It is a 14X3" filter with a 7/8" drop base, according to the K&N specs. Check their web site. Fits fine on my '76.
I have TFS angle plug heads and am using Dynomax headers. No problems reaching any of the plugs.

No problem for RPM intake w/ Holley & drop base.
Get Dynomax coated headers.
If you are doing the Edelbrock RPM package w/ cam, you need a manual trans. or high stall converter.
