Assuming the car already did not have the original engine. Would installing a more modern transmission in favor of the Muncie, increase or decrease the cars value.
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (LAvetteman)
As a sports car, I would assume that a stick would fetch a better price. I know that I'd be willing to pay more for a standard Corvette then an Auto, although an auto is what I have :D
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (LAvetteman)
If you want a originality show winner, find a more original one, and enjoy cringing everytime you take it out.... Not my idea of a good time.
bah! I don't plan on ever selling my baby, so resale originality value be damned! I take my #'s matching L82, 4spd out all the time with no worries whatsoever.
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (Adeotec)
Well, I have a Richmond 5-speed in my '71 LT-1 and the value to me is a lot more than with the 4-speed. It's an absolute BLAST to drive. Having said that, it is a "numbers matching" LT-1, so the original tranny (like everything I have ever removed from the car) occupies a special place of honor in my garage in case I ever want to restore it or sell it (highly unlikely) to someone who does.
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (Adeotec)
It seems to me that a five speed with a 1:1 final drive ratio on a modded 350 with a relatively high, flat torque curve doesn't improve drivability. More gears are necessary when you have a peaky torque curve and you must keep engine RPM in a fairly narrow band to use that torque.
I think a manual with a .6 or so overdrive would add much more utility - strong acceleration AND good fuel economy at cruise. HMMM, sounds like a C5.
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (LT-1 Larry)
Depends on the car.....An unmolested car I would leave alone but a regular modded C-3 I would say do what you like. Even if you do put in the 5 or 6 speed you can always take it out and put the old 4 speed back in
Re: 5-speed increases or decreases value? (Alwyn678)
As a C5 owner who wants to buy a C3 (to park along side the C5, when I get the money that is), I think LT1-Larry has the right Idea. I don't want a super original car, because I want someting I can play with and mod. I would love to find a 70-72 with a 5 or 6 speed in it, but I would want the original 4 speed in a case/box to keep with the car.
