I am using a reusable gasket for the differential cover, but when I torque the cover to about 50-60 pounds, the gasket wants to ooze out. The manufacturer, Ratech, says that 15-20 pounds is sufficient. This seems way too low for a part that holds up the rear suspension and must take the torque load of the engine as well.
My manuals simply say "tighten sufficiently". Not a big help.
Thanks Steve and Guppie for the help! I used a standard Felpro paper gasket instead and torqued to 50#. Actually I went to 55, I don't want to worry about that cover shifting under a 1-2 power shift.
