When using your brakes, the energy from the moving car is transferred into heat in the rotor, calipers, brake fluid, etc. Brake fluid can get very hot, and that heat gets conducted into the master cylinder. That, mixed with it being a big chunk of metal in the hot engine compartment makes it stay really hot. Its normal. The headers are probably a lot hotter close to the engine, but they cool off much faster.

That is why the idea of changing brake fluid every 2 years is worth while. Besides picking up water it gets cooked and loses some of its properties. Beyond the MC the alternator gets super hot also. Feel it next time you shut the car off. This heat breaks down the varnish on the windings etc, but it lasts years, good design from that aspect.

underhood heat permeates everything. Just as if you touch any metal that's been in the sun awhile. Then add the brakes heat generation as described above and you have a little caullron.
