Anybody know any good places to pick up original carbs, online or off (other than ebay--I'm already watching there)? I'm still looking for a '69 L-36 Qjet (#7029215), if anyone knows where I can pick one up at a reasonable (under $400) price.
Be patient!! Don't pay the extortionists what they are asking!!
Have you tried tracking down non-vette sources? Chevelle, El Camino, or ChevyII forums, vendors, suppliers? My theory (and it is just a theory) is that the carb you are looking for should not be overly expensive or hard to find because it was used on many other bigblock applications besides corvette in 1969. My "correct" carb for 68 is another story. It was only used on corvettes and is very expensive. But if in the real world you can't find your carb, what good is my theory!! :) MJ
Just curious, have you tried Parts Dept. at Chevy, or is that your benchmark for not paying more then $400?
Naw, I'm pretty sure that's a part the parts dept isn't going to have. I base the $400 on being told by other forum members that original '69 BB carbs can cost up to that amount. I've found one on ebay, but the bozo has a $775 minumum bid on it, unrestored. Of course, he also doesn't have any bids.
MJ--I'll start checking out some of the Chevelle, etc. suppliers and see what I can find. Thanks.
1. Chicago Corvette Supply has a ton of old cores. Need rebuilding.
2. A rebuilder called RECARBO. They have a lot of old cores, rebuild them and sell for a reasonable price.

Woo, woo. Recarbo's got one already rebuilt for $230. Thanks!

Okay, I figured you probably already thought about that.
You know, I'd really love to go to a parts swap meet, but there never seems to be one around here. A few folks show up at some of the shows, but they generally have nothing but pure crap.
Haw! You're forgetting something. You missed the opportunity for a perfectly good spreadbore Holley dirt cheap at the TCA car show. I sold it to someone else for a song (and a beer).
But I admit the majority of swap meet stuff around here tends to be overpriced rusty crap. At the Pig Stand swap meet last month, a guy wanted $95 for a ragged-out Performer 289 manifold -- I just paid $100 for a bolted-on-but-never-used unit on eBay!!!
