After replacing the fly wheel cover on my 69 350 bellhousing, my starter has begun grinding on start up. This does not occur every time, but it is unnerving to say the least. Is it possible that the starter is not alligned correctly with the flywheel, even if the bolts (starter to block) match up correctly? Thanks
I've spent the past few weeks screwing around with my starter. No, I wont bore you to death.
If all you did was remove the inspection cover, I'd say you put it on fowl-eyed.
If you moved the starter/loosened bolts on the starter, then I'd say you may have lost some starter shims. Dont ask me how important shims are
Let us know how it works out.
Is it a sound like when you try to start a car thats already started. I've done that a few times with my wifes car, its so quite you wouldn't know it was running...I bet the C5 guys have the same problem :D
Exactly! It sounds as if the car is running and I turned the key again.
As for shims, there were no shims on the starter when I took it off. I plan to crawl back under there tonite to check alignment of the cover and starter.
