Default Rear Coil-over shocks -

I was looking at the rear suspension on my '69 vert..... and I held up an old set of Koni coil-overs to my shocks, and it looks to me like I could just bolt them right on, and get rid of the mono spring... anyone ever tried this, or seen it? I've ran the Koni coil-overs on a few Prostreeters, and they work great! I can't seen any reason why they wouldn't work here...unless the original mono spring adds some geometry function..... ANyone want to add their two cents?

You can use koni coil overs but not on the rear shock mount, that is by far not strong enough. The way to do it is something like this:

What kind of shocks do you have? 8112 or 8212?? If they are SPA1 specced shocks I wouldn't use them on the street (valved for drag racing) because they will get very hot then and may possibly fail.

Where did you find the trailing arms?

I have a set of 8212's I used to run on a ProStreet '70 Opel GT, w/a Blown SBC, 9" ford rear, and wheelie bars. I loved the Koni's for being able to adjust them for softer ride, or bump them for the track as needed. I never had a problem with them heating up on me. I'd have to get new springs for a stiffer rate I'm sure. My Opel was only about 2800 lbs.

I figured it's a better rear suspension then the mono setup.

Nahh.. I think these 8212's will end up on my Vette in the near future. I loved the way they worked with my Opel... My real problem right now is the urge to tub my '69 vert... I'd feel guilty about cutting her up, but I love the prostreet look, and functionality. My little '70 Opel GT looked like a 1/2 size C3 anyway! :steering: :hurray:

Dang, I want those 8212s too. Problem is, Koni is a Dutch make but they refuse to sell the 82, 81 and 21 series coil overs here. Dunno why, they only sell in North America. I'm desperately looking for a set of 8212 tp put on my car :(

69 Rat. What am I looking at. Are both of these your cars or just pictures you are practicing with? You can't just show pictures like this and not explain. :) :)

norvalwilhelm -

These are pics of what I might do to my '69 vert. My issue is that in order to get the stance I want.. I would lose the functioning soft top. I could always get a hardtop and just remove it for topless riding, but it's a bit of a pain. :skep:
I'm deffinately leaning towards tubbing the car.. though I do feel a little guilt, since mine is in great shape, and mostly original BB vert. But can you really argue with the looks of either Pro streeter above??
