Gas Tank Straps, how do they attach?
can someone post a pic of how their gas tank straps attach to the slots in the removeable crossmember? My old tank was held in with plain steel bands that someone had fashioned up. The straps that I got from zip and my crossmember look nothing like what's in the AIM. My slots are on the vertical edge of the crossmember, whereas on the AIM they're shown on the horizontal edge. The straps I was sent look nothing like what's in the AIM either.

The other end of the band is U-shaped and then slide into the gas tank mount crossmember.
Post that picture from the manual so I can see what it looks like.

The bands are hooked in horizontally from front to back.

Chris, that 79's straps look nothing like what I have, maybe the early cars are different?
Rexx, I see how they're looped under. My straps look too short to do that. I had them looped around the front but couldn't get the other end far enough down to get the screw started, looped around the back would make it shorter yet..

Now that you mention it, didn't the 78 come with a larger gas tank than previous years, if that's the case, maybe yours will be completely different from mine.

The newest corvette and chevy trader(has dark red shark on cover) at most gas stations has a good write up and photos or gas tank replacement for sharks. If no one's got it here try to look in one of them.
