My present 85 amp AC/Delco just doesn't keep up anymore. Since I installed dual Spal fans which use 30 amps my around town driving just sucks the battery dry. :(
Wednesday is our local cruise night and with the fans and head lights on my volt meter was always way less than 12 volts. I ended up driving in lower gears just to keep it charging some what.
My only other power suckers are my Crane H-6R Multi spark rev limiter @ 10 amps and my freeway only lockup torque converter which is 25-30 amps depending on who you talk to.
That adds up to 70 or so amps without head lights and the alternator doesn't make max amps till something over 3000 rpm
I drove over to Summit Racing and bought the 100 amp chrome Power Master. The dyno test tag attached to the alternator said 74 amps at 2400 rpm and 106 amps 6000 rpm. That's alternator rpm, so just above idle it's 70+ amps. Factory set to 14.7 volts.
It also had a warning about alternator rpm. red line of 17,700 rpm. So just to be on the safe side I pulled my larger alternator pulley off my old alternator and installed it on the new Power Master.
