Hey guys I was wondering how many of you with TH400 auto trans shift the gears when running the 1/4 mile. I'm running a stock 350 with a few mods: high rise manifold, a Holley 780 with vacuum secondaries, 3.55 rear, and a custom 2 1/2"exhaust with flowmaster 50's. Just trying to get an idea of what rpms to shift at without damaging the trans.....installing an Auto meter shift light also........Thanks for your imput....... :flag
Mine kind of hesitates when shifted manually, like half a second or so. I try to time it so when the transmission actually shifts I'm pretty darn close to redline. Normally I shift at 5000 when really getting on it but if I were pushing for a time I'd probably aim for closer to 5200 RPMs. I don't plan on turning my motor past 5500.
I don't know if my shifter is broken but I can shift from 3rd to neutral without pressing a button or anything. More than once I've shot clear into neutral from second.
Is the TH400 stock in mid year C3's? I've always been under the impression that I have a TH350, or am I jsut confusing cubic inchs with the transmissin model number?
In 1973 all that was offered was a TH400 auto trans, I believe that in 1976 there was two trans offered the TH350 was with the base L-48 350 engine, also the TH400 was with the L-82 350 engine...........
