What do you guys think of this package. i am starting a frame off on my 1970
and would like to make it handle and ride a little better. as close to my 1997 as possible. Also does any one know where i can get a better deal than $1999.0
I also am going to add power sterring and the best brakes i can put on. What kits do you recomend for converting to power sterring.
thanks for any imput you might have.
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (greg7097)
Greg,
I don't think you will find a better "deal" anywhere. If you really look at all that is included. I think the price is pretty low. If you look at pricing the included items separately from different vendors, I would think the savings would be readily apparent. The only lower price I would say you'll find is when there is a group purchase. $2,000 is a lot of money, but the kit covers alot:
springs
anti-sway bars
front control arms
smart struts
shims for rear
poly bushings
differential X-member locator
etc.
I think the only thing you would require further is the poly body mount kit at about $50. I've yet to install mine, so I can't tell you how good it is. (Not that I've every driven my vette without it for a comparison...)
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (greg7097)
I don't have that exact package, but there is a lot of VBP suspension stuff on my car - front/rear adjustable monosprings, spreader bar, smart struts. I haven't gotten around to playing with all the adjustments yet, but it feels like it handles very well. Weight transfer seems almost instantaneous, and there is almost no perceptible body roll even at the limit. I definitely recommend it. Uprated tires are most effective suspension mod though, so do that too.
I've never driven a new vette, so I can't compare to that.
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (aharte)
i would highly recomend this kit the handlling and ride is great i have tried many things i have had a very good stock set up i have had a single mount mono spring in the rear i have used the edelbrock shocks that were supose to be soooo good (pieces of junk) i had used the poly struts and ihave used all these things in many configarations and there is no comarison to the complete performance plus kit even when i got it i did not put it all on at one time so used parts of it mixed with other aftermarket stuff and it wasnt till about a month ago that i used the shocks that came with it.
after all that i have done with the suspension i can say there is no better way to go than with this kit everything is perfectly match together :)
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (dewcustom)
Starting my 70 resto too, staring at the catalog right now, which I have had for months. This thread has me convinced once and for all- (though i suspect I was just about there anway). I plan on including a brake rebuild purchase in there too- wonder if vettebrakes gives discounts with big orders...? :chevy
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (Rottenrob)
Sorry it took me so long to get back ( i lost the thread)stupid i know
Well i think i am going to go with a new frame, the perfprmance plus package ( i already have the shocks and the rear strut rods and i don't need the steering kit) becouse i am going to put on the steeroids set up ( thats if it will work with this package)
Does any one know if the performance plus kit will work with the steeroids kit?
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (Jack71)
Greg, my 68 has the performance plus suspension package along with the steeroids, no problems in installing. To get the best results you should upgrade your wheels to 17".
Re: Vette brakes performance plus package (greg7097)
You might also want to get Hydraboost, I have all three, VBP Perf.+, Steeroids and Hydraboost, it's a great set up. I also have 5 speed backing the BB. Hooker sidemounts will work with the steeroids. I have Stahl headers on my 79.
