Only in my dreams do I have the Katech 427 in the Z! My point was that if not for owning the 69 for the past 30 years, there is no way I would even consider an L88 knowing that I could make the same power with the Katech and get all of the handling/braking/comfort features too.
The stock 405hp Z engine is phenomenal. I have said numerous times that I think it is very similar to a 66 425hp 427 with single 4 barrel Holley, a slightly better version than the tri-power IMHO. Such a car with 4.11 gears, street drag radials, and a 4 speed would make very similar numbers to the Z06, at least until the Z shifted into 4th and started to walk away.
I have dyno'd both the L88 and the Z. There is almost 150hp difference between the two and it is very evident. If the 66 Vette I spoke of earlier had the same exhaust as the L88 it too would be significantly more powerful. But the $25K Katech version of the LS6 would certainly be more than enough to overcome any performance deficit placing the Z out of reach of any C2 or C3 I have ever seen.
And I was the guy riding with him.
Boy was he flying!!!
He was moving through those turns so fast he made be car sick and we had to pull out early!
Thanks for the good driving advice clutchdust -- by the late afternoon I was running fast enough that I made myself car sick!
This is one of those "If I should win the lottery" type things. I'd be camping at the nearest Chevy dealership.
Oh me to. I win the lottery I'd be at the Chevy dealership in Aurora, ready with my deposit. I'd have to wait though, I'd only settle for a museum delivery. :D . Lets see, Millenium Yellow, Loaded, like the Z06 isn't already.
Dawg, trust me. i hate telling you. like 'they' say, ignorance is bliss. i'd rather be able to go on believing that if you just threw enough money at a c-3 it'd be a comparable car. now, that's a hard pill to swallow. that would be one big wad of cash!
tom, thanks again for allowing me to take your car out. i have another thread in A&R about last weekend. without rehashing everything, i'd like you to take a look at it when you get a chance. thanks again and i hope to see you out at the track again soon.
That's why I have an almost completely stock C3. I can't even begin to think of all the upgrades I would like to do, but it would never compare to a new ride. That's why every time I walk past it, I give it a pat, and say " I like you just the way you are!" :D
I know the feeling! Driving my mom's '01 vs. my '75 is such a huge jump. In the c5, there's ac, better stereo, hud, and did I mention this car can drive circles around mine, not to mention stick to the corners like none other?
On the other hand, does it have the raw appeal and head-turning, attention grabbing super sleek look that mine has? I think not (not that I wouldn't mind having one) :D :chevy
