Erm, I think I kinda forgot to fill my torque converter with a quart or so of fluid before I slapped the engine in... What are my options? Can I just fill the transmission with fluid and assume the converter will be okay? This is a new converter by the way, so I don't really want ot risk it, but I also don't really want to pull the engine back out either. CRAP :banghead:
No problem at all. Just fill the trans. Start the engine and keep adding fluid until it is just above the add mark. Then Cycle the selector a few times and re check the fluid level You may need to do this a few times. Don't drive the car until the fluid level remains at the full mark.
Not a problem. Dump in about 4 quarts, fire it up for a few seconds (so the pump can fill the converter), add 2-3 more and run it through the gears. top it off and your set. You can't hurt it.
I've done the same thing also. the problem is air bubbles and your TQ untill it's full of bubble free oil. It will slip to a higher rpm at first. I just fired the motor and let it idle till it got up to temp and then I shut it down for an hour or so and did it again. While it was hot I filled to the correct level before I ever drove it.
just drive it easy at first and get it all filled.
Thanks everyone, I was really worried that I may have to go pulling things back out again. This is a new engine that hasn't been fired up yet, so I just want to make sure that everything is in good working order before I go for it. Just concerend about screwing things up for now, I don't need to drive it (and cannot until I put calipers on it), so I'll just add the fluid and not worry much about it until I get ready drive it:D
