Are there rubber body bushings on a 1968,
how many are there and where are they located?
How do you know it needs to be change and what is the best
way to change them if thats the problem?
No rubber body bushings. First year for rubber bushings on a C3 was 1973. Yours are aluminum, and probably all are cracked in a million pieces. I replaced mine in 1975, and they all crumbled. I replaced mine with rubber, what a difference in ride comfort.
You will have to disconnect the seat belt strap that's under the car, and anything else that the body is attached to the body and frame. You should be able to see everything that needs to be disconnected. Place a 2 x 6 on a jack and raise one side, high enough to slip the aluminum pieces out and replace with new mounts.
Yes they are in a million pieces... and stress cracks have arrive.
Are there only four bushings, one on each side by the tires?
Are the bushings available only with the Corvette venders?
Thanks for the information.
4 per side, by the firewall, one after the firewall, one before the rear wheel, one after. You might have problems getting the bolt out of the rear mount. That nut is caged, and if rusted, will just spin in the cage.
Check out the condition of your Rocker channels. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started my body mount replacement job. I read articles and asked questions but no one mentioned what it was going to take to replace rotted out steel. Several members are currently doing this right now so check some of the recent post. I have pictures on my home page if you want to see them.
Good luck
