Default So who here is running a blower?

I have an opportunity to pick one up and was curious about the modifications you made prior to set up?

your gonna have to run a good rotating assembly. you will have to run about 8 to 1 compression. You may need a better fuel system to run the two holleys.

It is possible to just bolt a blower onto a stock motor. The only thing I had to mod on mine (beside the hood :) ) was to get extension on the fan to push it out 3 1/2 inches. That being said mine is the smallest blower you can buy and has one carb. To get the max HP out of one like in your picture you need a really strong motor with heads that breath like a dragon. :steering:

It really depends on how much power you plan to produce... how much boost your looking to put into the motor.
If your doing it for more show-then-go.... then min changes are:
-8:1 compression
-Dual holley 600
-Blower cam
-bigger radiator (these things cause alot of heat)
-hi-flow electric fuel pump
-under drive the blower 10-15% and no more then 5psi boost, you'll be fine with a stock bottom end and heads.

If your looking for power and going to over-drive the blower and put 15+psi boost... you'll need:
-forged rods, forged crank, forged pistons, double row chain
-BIG R-port aluminum heads.. AR's or Brodix work well.
-forget the carbs, go with injection.. either mechanical if you really understand injection.. or go with the BDS electronic injection.. it's good for 1500HP in stock trim.
-Auto transmission w/3000+ stall .... modified TH-400 will hold up. Don't even think of a standard for a street car running a big blower motor... You can't imagine the amount of low end torq it will create.
-Everything in the driveline will have to be beefed up to handle the added torq this will create. Yes, it will distroy parts quite easily!

:reddevil

I've ran blowers on cars, trucks, pulling trucks, pulling tractors for years.... One of my favorite sayings is...
"injection is nice... but I'd rather be BLOWN!!"

Oh sure......I am thinking about it.....I have an opportunity to pick one up brand new for about 1/2 the cost still in the box :reddevil I would run a very low boost level and kinda play around with it

At low boost levels a 671 or 871 can still add a significant amount of low-end torq. Blowers are great, but can be a bit tricky to get tuned... One word of caution.. ALWAYS run towards the rich side!! Never let a blower run lean, or you can burp the blower, which can kick a rod, trash the valves, etc.

But once you go for a blower.. you'll never want to go back to na again!!

Have fun! :hurray:
