Re: Manifold to Header change? (DP77Vette)
:lurk: Days to weeks so I'll have to say it depends . It depends if you need to restore the smog plumbing - if it was installed previously? It depends if have to modify the A/C bracketry - if it was installed previously? It depends if you whant to install a stater heat shield - highly recommended - and what type of shield or would you rather fabricate your own? It depends if you find any associated parts/equipment that need immediate repair/fix? As I found heat damage to the passenger side floor pan fiberglass and preparing to fix then install heat shielding for protection. Finally you'll need to connect the collectors to the pipes - bend pipe at home or to muffler shop?
Sorry, just too many variables for a quik answer here.
I spent about 5 hrs to finish mine. No A/C, have PS. Take the old manifold out from top, the headers go in from underneath. Still have the starter shield. Removed the spark plug shield. Got a reducer to fit the old 2.25 pipes. No leaks, no problems.
IMHO, best bang for the buck is a good set of headers....
I think that is the best answer - too many variables. Changing from manifolds to headers with the A/C and brackets could be all day, if you have the right spacers and studs to do the mounting
If yo decide to go ahead, I would plan on a couple of days at home and then the easiest for the exhaust is a two to the local muffler shop and have them custom make the rest of the system.
