Glad to hear ya got her fired!!! That's a load off, right? What do you think the problem was before when it wouldn't start up? Keep us posted on the how that first drive goes.
OOps, just now saw your post-before-the-last-one. It must have been the wooden carb problem holding you back.
Brett
Well, the wooden carb probably wasn't helping, that's for sure. We may have just been a bit too nice with the throttle as I was getting a bit anxious about all of the fireballs burping from the carb:D There is no choke on this carb, so I think it needs a lot of fuel to get her going, then quite a bit of gas. I took over on the carb as the fireballs seemed to disturb my dad more than me, though the last one may have singed some arm hairs off:D
Thanks a BUNCH for all of the help everyone! I can see the end in sight now, it felt good to hear the engine actually run, even if we couldn't break it in last night. Today's another day and I'm confident we will actually get the engine broken in after we replace the starter yet again
Gosh, you're so close. I hope you solve your starter problem. As for the tach, you can just hook up one of those electric ones from the store to your ignition box. I have a Crane unit and it just requires hooking up the orange wire to the orange on the unit (I think it's orange) and then wiring a positive and a negative. I used one for my timing light...duct taped it to the gun and then run the pos/neg to starter (along with timing gun) and run the extra orange wire from tach to my ignition box. Now I can see timing and RPM at same time.
Good luck tonight

Hopefully the new tach I got will work then. I was too busy looking at the throttle linkage to look at the tach after I got the new one. I hooked it up to the TACH output on the distributor (I have a stock style HEI unit). I always clip the wires to the alternator where they say not to since it's so easy to get to:D Just careful not to short them...
