Default Will a Holley 850 be useable for this application?

I have the chance to pick up a new Holley 850 pretty cheap and I was wondering if it would be overkill for a 75 auto with an aggresive cam and ported heads? (New intake manifold, and long tubes as well)

What do you think? Im looking to get as much power as I can out of my 75 vette with the stock block. Streetability does not matter to me.

I don't see why not since you say *streetability* is not an issue. Might hafta jet it down some tho.

I think it would run like a dog w/ a 850 on that 350. :yesnod:

:iagree:

My guess is a 650 would do just fine for 350 cubes! I'd pass on the 850, even if a good deal.

You will have problems tuning it, if it can be done at all. I am going through this same thing right now with my 454, wishing I had gone with the 750.

Jetting won't affect the airflow. It will only make the air that is flowing through the carb leaner or richer. The car, this car in particular, will be an astounding dog with such an over-capacity carburetor. It won't even be fast going off a cliff. The only way you might get away with it is if it is a vacuum secondary carb. The low-rpm performance will still suck real bad but at least you won't have affected the top end (either better or worse).

If your small block makes at least 450 horse power and is very high revving, and you have high numerical gears I think you would love it. Although a vacuum secondary is a bit better for automatics. If you are making 300 or less with a standard 3 speed automatic with 3 something rear end, I think it will feel like it is falling on its face until you hit about 4000 rpm.
