Fuel Delivery Problem
My 78 doesn't pump any gas when cranking it. Any ideas?
If you prime it, it starts right up and runs well except it lays down when it shifts to 3rd at WOT.

Indy Year 25,
I had a fuel delivery problem too, found out it was a clogged "fuel sock" in the tank.

I hope this helps.
Good luck, Steve.

Re: Fuel Delivery Problem (snb73)
Thanks Steve! I will try poking it with a stick............like road kill.
Anyone know if I can change the sock fairly easily on my 78?

Get the spare tire carrier out of the way and you can then get at the sender and sock. Are you sure the fuel pump is ok? Or the filter to the carb?

:yesnod: I just changed the fuel pump for the second time since I started having the lay down problem. (Don't ask why I changed it the second time. :bb )
The filter in the carb has been changed too (and the carb has been rebuilt). Besides, when the line is disconnected from the filter it won't pump gas when cranking.

If you diconnect the gas line TO the pump, does gas weep from the line? If not, then as you already surmised, the problem is upstream.

When I replaced the fuel pump gas did not weep out of the line FROM the tank.

Can I do this with a small amount of gas in the tank?
