Default L88 Hood installation latch question

I'm trying to install my L88 hood latches and am wondering how the latches are mounted as there is no steel plate underneath the mounting area. I'm hoping I can reuse my original latches. How are the latches attached to the L88. Are there some type of anchoring things I can buy somewhere? I just can't see running 4 bolts into the fiberglass alone . Any ideas on what to use and where to get some kind of anchors for the bolts to go in? Thanks for any help!

That's odd  There should be anchor nuts in there. If not, I'd return that hood. The anchor nuts are installed on the inner before it gets attached to the outer.

There are two anchor nuts under there but they do not line up anywhere near where my latch bolts would go. I have a 74 if that makes any difference.

OK, not to offend you, but are you checking the attach with the latches oriented properly left and right? On mine the cable side would be that nearest the cowl. I don't know exactly what latch differences there may be from year to year, but if your orientation is correct, then the hood may be for a different year.

Just curious where you bought the hood as I might be getting one next year?

The latches are aligned properly as I have the stock hood to look at. I bought the hood from a forum member and it came from Ecklers. The hood lines up perfect so far. I guess that you must specify year as the latch bracket can be different ? I went ahead and drilled the locating pin holes and there is a steel plate under it. I havn't drilled all four mounting holes yet to see if I hit steel or not. I guess I will have to make a bracket of some type to act as a anchor. Shouldn't be to bad as I have some limited access now.

I wouldn't do that. I'd be afraid of long term problems. That has got to be the wrong hood. Do yourself a big favor and contact your hood source and send it back.
