My '81 wouldn't spin the tyres when I got it. As Ganey said, I put a Mid America dual exhaust on it & it would briefly spin them in 1st (proof that the exhaust change gave more power ;) ).
Since changing the cam, tranny, etc I haven't actually tried to spin them (BFG's are apparently really hard to get hold of, so I'm trying to make mine last!) but wheel spin isn't a good thing: something spinning it's tyres & making lots of smoke at the lights looks impressive, but if there's a little L81 blasting up the road ahead of them it kinda makes them look a bit lame :)
Dual exhausts was the 1st real mod I did to mine & is still the best seat of the pants improvement I've done (the 200-4r is the BEST thing I've done by far, but that's a general all round driveability improvement).
