Default Re: determining compression ratio (79corvetteTPI)

CR is the volume of displacement within the cylinder fron the top of the piston at the top of the stroke to the top of the piston at the bottom of the stroke, and added into that the TOTAL volume of the gasket thickness over the diameter of the cylinder, and the volume of the cylinder head with valves closed and seated....so we take that total volume and divide it into the volume of just the gasket and cylinder head....and so that's the effective STATIC CR.....NOW when this crap is energised and running the cam acts to bleed off and.....radically change the effective compression ratio....needless to say the more overlap the valve timing has between intake and exhaust the more compression is lost due to valve timing, BUT that can be a good thing for overall power, but NOT emissions.....
