Default Measurement for CF Clutch

I am reading the orange instruction sheet that came with the clutch, which states to measure from the back side of the engine protection plate. Since my bellhousing is stock and I don't have an engine protection plate where should I measure up to? The engine side of the crankshaft? I will most definitely be needing the Lakewood adjustable pivot ball. Also any and all that need to do this and the engine is in the car: plan on removing all your shift brackets to get the transmission back far enough.

Default Re: Measurement for CF Clutch (TotallySmoked)

I did not measure mine but instead visualized how far the fork travelled than set the distance so that half way through the fork travel the fork was perpendicular to the clutch forks (fingers). This way the fork is sliding towards the through out bearing half of the its travel then the back half is it sliding away. I think with the shorter stud causes the fork to be perpendicular to the clutch at engagement then slides away for its full travel which cause the fork to push on the throw out bearing way off center to the drivers side which might be why you get binding. Just think of the fork pivoting on the stud and how it travels in an arc at its outer end that is attached to the throw out bearing. Hope this makes sense.
