Have on in my Formula and it seems it would be great for any trans. Not sure why you couldn't use one on a Th350/400 and use a loose stall then click the TC on when cruising. School me on why you can't/wouldn't.

Re: When can you use a locking torq converter? (Fevre)
a lockup converter will only work with the transmission it was made for - can't put a 700R4 converter on a 350/400.
There is a 350C model that has a lockup converter and was used in 80-81 Corvettes and other GM vehicles and trucks. You could use that, but the parts and especially the converters are hard to find in the aftermarket and they cost a lot of money.
If you want a lockup, just install the 700R4 / 200R4. You will get a much lower first gear, overdrive 4th gear and the lockup converter. For the price of rebuilding a 350C you can get a 700R4 conversion done.
Re: When can you use a locking torq converter? (BSeery)
Guess I was wonder more why there is no after market ltc avail, most be a reason sicne all new trannies come with em. You could run a highway gear and high stall, say 3.08 and 3000 stall but lock it for cruise at 2500. I have a 700r4 in my formula with a 2800 stall.
Re: When can you use a locking torq convertor? (Fevre)
What about switch pitch convertors? Havnt I heard of them being used on th350 and 400 trans? Its not a lock up vertor but you can controll the stall speed with a switch.
How about a clutch automatic? Ever heard of one of those. Its an automatic trans that uses a clutch pedal to dis-engage the convertor. So you can rev it real high then dump the pedal to launch hard. The rest of the way it functions like a standard automatic.
Either of these two dont make up for the advantage of the lockup convertor. When a lockup vertor is locked, not only does it reduce rpms but there is less heat generated since the slippage has been eliminated while locked.
