Hey guys, I am new to the forum and was looking for a little information on what front springs to use. I have a 76 vette that I am working on, I did some modifying on the engine and in the process reduced a lot of weight up front by adding aluminum heads, intake and water pump. Now the front of the car sits 1-1 1/2 inches to high for my tastes. I have the original stock springs and would like to replace them for performance and to adjust the ride height back down. What do you guys recommend for springs? Any info would be great!
Re: Front suspension ride height (Pacin'California)
Yep, I've got 550# coils as well, but mine still sits a bit higher than I would like, though I drive it around town mostly, so I'm not sure I want to lower it any more, I've bottomed out once on a large dip... Put a nice scrape on my oil pan, but did no other damage...
If you go to the VBP front mono leaf system you can adjust the ride height to suit your taste without having to pull out springs and cut coils...
I would love to purchase the front monoleaf kit but at this time I need to save some money and was looking to get by with a cheaper solution. If money wasn't an option I would definitely purchase the monoleaf system because the the adjustability of the ride height and spring rate.
See the corvettefaq for the Vette Improvement Program series on suspension with inof on cutting springs.
Unless your'e a racer, I'd recommend VB 460s instead of the 550s.

Re: Front suspension ride height (flynhi)
I went the cheaper route. I bought stock TRW SB springs and cut 3/4 off the coil after trying them at the stock height first. Stock fender lip height is between 27-28 inches according to the AIM. Fender lip height is now about 26.5inches. :hurray:
