Default Restoration/Rebuild Questions

I'm in the middle of a extensive restoration/upgrade/rebuild project for my 1977. This includes engine, engine bay, interior, all systems, etc. So far, things have been going good but slow. I have been stumped on two issues and look to you experts for help:

1. Where can I fine a replacement dust boot and filter element for the firewall side of the vacuum brake booster. The firewall gasket is easy enough to find but I have had no luck with these other pieces.

2. I have about a 3/4 inch gap all the way around my air duct that leads to the windshield defrost deflector. This is the duct directly behind the center console and joins the vent in the upper dash pad. Where the duct joins the main air duct is a complete gap. Is this normal or did Bubba forget to reinsulate?

Any help is appreciated and I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes. I'll post a complete list of mods with pictures in the future.

Thanks,

Snakey

First off, welcome to forum, you number one place for advice, opinions, hard times, arguements, and disagreements.....oh...and helpful hints from Helouise too....

on that brake thing, I know nothing.....sorry...

on that vent problem...are you sure the rest of the ductwork is lined up ok, and the bolts in place..?? the lower heater output duct fitting under that diverter valve box normally seems to hold everything up far enough to make that defroster vent fit up ok....I have some slop in that too, but not 3/4 inch though....might just fit it up with some pipe wrap and RTV from H Despot...

Duct tape works good to seal the two ducts together.

 Welcome to the forum snakey.
1) Just click on the Zip Products logo and order: booster firewall seal #DB-385 for $4.50
2) Yea my '74 had a small gap on the defroster ductwork too. Found some insulated 2" tape (looks aluminum coated) at Home Depot - cheap. Just used a small piece and seemed to fit things up fine.

My duct work did not line-up well either. I molded the aluminum type of duct tape to seal the joints.

What are you guys NUTS !?!?
Using duct tape to actually seal ducts - it's sole intended purpose ?!?!? :lolg:
OK - well it might work

Can't help on the booster stuff. I don't remember taking a seal or filter off.

Welcome and good luck :seeya

Can't help you with the dust seal, but that ductwork, maybe. 3/4 inch is quite a bit, try to adjust all other ducts to tighten that up a bit. I much prefer a good grade of silicone caulk over duct tape as the caulk won't turn in to gooey wrinkled up mess after a period of time. Good luck and welcome to the forum. I have never "met" anyone here who I didn't like. I think we have a real good group of people here and hope you hang around a while.
