Default Flowmaster question

Hello,

I going to be ordering a set of "original flow" 40 series 2.5" flowmasters from summit today. I need to know what configuration will provide the best fit. I want to tuck the mufflers up so you can only see the tips. Should I get offset inlet/outlet or offset inlet/center outlet? Also I'm thinking about painting the mufflers black so I can hide them better, has anyone done this before and what kind of paint should i use for this?

Thanks,
Kevin

Offset in, Center out. The offset side will mount towards the center of the car. I had mine tucked up really nice and you could hardly see them. I had chrome Z28 style tips sticking out from underneath. The system fit great, but the passenger side fit a little shorter than the drivers side after it passed the differential. I took it to a shop and had it all welded up, BUT I am having it all redone, because the pipes pass through the crossmember, making dissassembly impossible. On a final note, I removed the spare tire tub. That is the only way I could get the mufflers stuffed out of sight(connected to the MAD system). Click on my sig pic. I have other pics if you want them.

Sorry- I don't know why I was assuming you had the Mid America Direct bolt up system. If you live in a state that will not weld up an aftermarker system, they are a good bolt on set of pipes. Otherwise, I'd just take it to a shop and let them custom make a setup for your car.

Not sure, but I *THINK* that you probably want offset inlet and outlet. As far as painting goes, get a 1500 (or probably 1200) degree BBQ paint and they'll disappear nicely. I did this with my Dynomax Super Turbos and the paint seems to hold up just fine. I'd put several coats on myself...

EDIT: Nevermind the offset inlet/outlet, looks like someone else has better info:D

Thanks for the information guys, I just ordered the flowmasters from summit and was happy to find them on sale for $51 each. I ended up ordering outset inlet/center outlet and I'm going to paint them because i saw a couple of C3s at Carlisle with them painted and liked the look.

79VetteMike: I think i will be buying a 74 2.5" kit from somewhere. I already went to a couple of exhaust shops and got nowhere. Most shops told me the exhaust I wanted was illegal for my car and wouldn't do it. I found a couple of race shops that would do a mendrel bent 2.5" or 3" system but they wanted over $1,000 just to bend and weld the pipes, plus I would have to pay for the headers and mufflers in addition.

Thanks,
Kevin

You should not have to paint them mine fit far enough under the car where you cant see them
